African populations have always used medicinal plants from the pharmacopoeia to treat various diseases. Thus, Allexis obanensis (Violaceae), is used by the populations in Cameroon to treat diseases such as fever, syphilis and malaria. 1Kg of the roots of this plant dried and crushed then extracted with different solvents (methanol, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride and hexane) were tested for antibacterial activities on gram negative bacteria strains. The results obtained from the tests showed that the plant presented secondary metabolites that inhibited and in some cases completely destroyed the said bacteria, thus justifying the ethnobotanical use of this plant.
