Pharmacology of Cerebral Ischemia 1998
Neurodegeneration and neuroprotection in cerebral ischemia is an exploding and ever changing field of research. In particular, the progress in molecular biology has moved the center of interest from cellular calcium homeostasis and excitotoxicity to apoptosis, neurotrophic factors, NO and peroxynitrite,intracellular signaling, mitochondrial degeneration, inflammatory mechanisms, gene expression and gene therapy; these topics are included in this volume. In addition, thrombolysis and fibrinolytic therapy in acute ischemic stroke are discussed to forge links between basic science and practical therapy. The state of the art was presented at the 7th International Symposium on Pharmacology of Cerebral Ischemia in Marburg (Germany). The most relevant contributions of the symposium are compiled in this volume.
