Uranium, Radon & Heavy Metals Determination for Health Risk Assessment

Dr. Asha Arora, Dr. Mokshi
The world is naturally radioactive and around 90% of human radiation exposure arises from natural sources such as cosmic radiations, exposure to radon gas and terrestrial radiations. Main objectives of the study is:1. To see the trend in variation of these radionuclides in the environment, as we move from Punjab to Himachal Pradesh, as Punjab sediments are derived from Himachal Himalayas.2. To compare the data obtained with(i) The safe limits recommended by different health agencies (ii) Worldwide data reported by these agencies. With the rapidly increasing industrial development in the second half of twentieth century, elemental analysis has received more attention and the responsibility for securing high quality standards for industrial products in particular as well as for quality of life in general. In addition to the natural radionuclides, some of the toxic heavy metals are also analyzed in water and soil samples from the health point of view.
