Pulp revitalization

Lakshmi Pandey, Sarath Das K., Shashank Agarwal
Revitalization procedures have helped to develop regenerative endodontics in the clinical scenario. In place of blood clot, various natural and synthetic scaffolds are being tried like platelet- rich plasma, platelet-rich fibrin, or even the recently developed Nanofibrous and bioactive scaffolds. All this implies a highly evolving field. The introduction and implementation of these findings into clinical practice will definitely bring forth a positive influence on patient- centered outcomes in terms of disease resolution and rate of tooth survival. The innovations in technology, the discovery of newer materials and medicaments, and a better understanding of the principles of tissue engineering has all brought about a paradigm shift in the treatment of non-vitalized teeth. Moreover, recent case reports from multiple investigators support the feasibility of developing biologically based revitalization in endodontic procedures designed to restore a functional pulp-dentin complex. In short, the question is no longer whether the revitalization procedures can be successful instead,it is the issues that must be addressed to develop a safe, effective, and consistent method for regeneration.
