Clementi not only dedicated himself to the piano as a virtuoso and composer but also as a teacher, music publisher and instrument maker - so it is no wonder that he was referred to as the "Father of the Piano Forte" at the time. Alongside basic educational works he also wrote a great many instructive sonatas and sonatinas that form the basis of piano tuition even today. The Sonata in G major - from his opus 37 that was published in 1798 - is a must for all budding pianists. This is reason enough for us to publish this work of medium level of difficulty in a reasonably priced single edition. It was previously only available in a collected edition (HN 330). Clementi ne se consacra pas seulement au piano comme virtuose et compositeur, puisqu'il fut également pédagogue, éditeur de musique et facteur d'instruments - ce n'est donc pas par hasard qu'on le surnomma en son temps le «père du pianoforte». Parallèlement à des méthodes d'une importance fondamentale, on lui doit de nombreuses sonates et sonatines servant aujourd'hui encore de base à l'enseignement du piano. Les futurs pianistes ne peuvent guère échapper à sa Sonate en Sol majeur, tirée de son opus 37 paru en 1798 - raison suffisante pour proposer cette oeuvre de difficulté moyenne, jusqu'alors uniquement disponible à l'intérieur d'un recueil (HN 330), dans une édition séparée de qualité Urtext et à un prix tout à fait abordable. Clementi widmete sich dem Klavier nicht nur als Virtuose und Komponist, sondern auch als Pädagoge, Musikverleger und Instrumentenbauer - kein Wunder also, dass man ihn damals als "Father of the Piano Forte" bezeichnete. Neben grundlegenden Schulwerken hat er eine Vielzahl lehrreicher Sonaten und Sonatinen hinterlassen, die bis heute zur Grundlage jedes Klavierunterrichts gehören. Auch an der G-dur-Sonate aus seinem 1798 erschienenen Opus 37 kommt kaum ein angehender Pianist vorbei - Grund genug für uns, das bisher nur im Sammelband (HN 330) erhältliche Werk mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrades nun auch als preiswerte Einzelausgabe in bewährter Urtext-Qualität anzubieten.
