Standardization of sound pressure level measurements and case study

Diego Langaro, Ademilson Setti, Charles Israel
Due to the population growth of cities and the increase of their urban areas, the master plans are being modified over time. Such changes imply a change in the classification of inhabited areas, thus altering the sound pressure limits established by laws, both municipal, state and/or federal. Therefore, power substations often end up in disagreement with certain regulations, requiring noise mitigation measures. The work in question shows a standardized methodology for measuring noise in substations, based on the ABNT NBR 10151 standard. In addition, a case study is presented, carried out at Santa Marta Substation, linked to the State Company of Generation and Transmission of Electric Energy. (CEEE-GT), in order to test the effectiveness of the developed method. From the measured data, the noise generated by the substation was classified according to the guidelines of the aforementioned standard. Finally, it is expected with the present study, to estimate with greater reliability which substations are in disagreement with the current regulations and, from that, to seek better means of mitigating noise disturbances.
