Project-based Intervention and Youth Employment in the Agricultural Sector

Junior Bitsoumanou Nkounkou
Youth employment in a context of population growth and high youth population in Africa remains at the heart of development. The critical mass of youth in the labor market in the Republic of Congo is a concern for the state and organizations. The country is dependent on an oil-based economy and agriculture represents a potential sector and opportunity to diversify the economy and employ youth. This descriptive and strategic statistical analysis of FAO's project intervention in Congo through its 2013-2016 Country Programming Framework (CPF) with the Government of Congo, assesses the implementation of the recommendation of the 2014 28th FAO Regional Conference for Africa in Tunis. The results show a significant (60%) project implementation partnership with the ministries with an absence of ministries involved in youth, entrepreneurship and employment and an absence of private partners and academic entities. The lack of projects on the issue was revealed and an action plan for the promotion of youth employment in agriculture was proposed to contribute to the improvement of FAO's technical support.
