The process of professionalization of Ivorian NGOs

Kouassi Aimé Malanhoua
Ivorian NGOs are experiencing difficulties in their operations. Their professionalization is more than essential. Three dimensions must be taken into account. First, their structure, which requires the reform of the institutional framework of associations and the legal framework still in force, i.e., the outdated law 60-315 of September 21, 1960 on the legal regime of associations, a law that does not meet the realities of NGOs. The second dimension, that of activities, takes into account the non-profit purpose of the actions carried out, their legality with regard to fiscal obligations and extends professionalization to key principles such as sustainability, quality and accountability. Finally, the dimension of resources, human, logistical and financial resources. The author reviews the challenges of having quality, well-trained, operational staff and meeting the evolving standards in each sector of NGO work. He insists on the importance of the logistic chain in the professionalization of Ivorian NGOs and especially the thorny issue of financing governed by donor procedures and strategies to be developed.
