La co-infection L. major+S. mansoni soumise à aucune chimiothérapie après l'infection a montré une prédominance de macrophages parasités par L. major, affirmant le rôle d'exacerbation de S. mansoni dans la concomitance avec l'infection par L. major, alors que le traitement de première ligne combiné Praziquantel/Pentostam a été efficace pour gérer la comorbidité. Il est donc évident que 1) le traitement combiné de première ligne est plus efficace pour gérer la co-infection et 2) la chimiothérapie combinée complète l'immunomodulation.
