In this colonial era, several slaves composed significant works in which the horrors of slavery were documented and which contributed to the abolition of slavery. Outstanding among these works are Olaudah Equiano's and Mary Prince's autobiographical accounts, which give the reader an authentic insight into the construction of their Black British identities.
