The problem of evil in St. Augustine's philosophy

Eduardo Lourenço Figueiredo
The question of the origin of evil is a theoretical problem that has long occupied human speculation. Theologians and philosophers of all kinds have had to face this issue and find an adequate solution to the question about the origin of evil in the world. This question, however, is not only a theoretical problem. It is, above all, an existential problem that affects, at some point in life, each and every human being. It is impossible to go through life without feeling bothered by all the evils that plague the planet. The issue becomes more complex, however, if the one who dedicates himself to answering the question about the origin of evil is a Christian. In this case, he will have to deal with the issue by trying to reconcile the existence of a good and almighty God with the presence of evil in the world. This is the challenge faced by St. Augustine.
