Khazar Khaganate

Andrei Babushkin
The Khazar Khaganate is one of the oldest states in the history of Eastern Europe. Who were the Khazars? Where did they come from in Eastern Europe? What role did they play in the history of European and Asian nations? In this scientific study the author, based on the latest achievements of historical science gives answers to these difficult questions. The Khazars are one of the ancient Turkic-speaking peoples, who terrorised their neighbours in the VII-X centuries. They played a major role in the evolution of Russian statehood. It is no coincidence that the first Russian princes often adopted the title Kagan, thus trying to be equal to the ruler of the Khazars. However, there are still many unresolved issues of the Khazar history. Where did the Khazars disappear? Why no trace of this people was left? Until now, historians are unable to come to a consensus on the issue. The author of this publication suggests that traces of the Khazars can still be found among the peoples living in the North Caucasus and the delta of the Volga. Of great importance is the fact that the author personally participated in the excavations of the Khazar capital city of Itil and saw this state "live".
