Textiles: materials and manufacturing processes

Sara Jalaouy
The textile industry chain is one of the longest and most complicated in the manufacturing sector. It is a fragmented and heterogeneous sector, dominated by small and medium-sized enterprises, in which demand is driven mainly by three major end uses: clothing, furniture and industrial uses. The textile and clothing industry in Morocco is an activity with great potential. It occupies a strategic place in the national industry of transformation as well on the level of employment and exports as on the level of the socio-economic balance of the country. The textile industry starts with the production or harvesting of raw fibers. The finishing processes (pre-treatment, dyeing, printing, finishing and coating, including washing and drying operations) represent the bulk of the processes and techniques. Upstream processes, such as synthetic fiber production, spinning, weaving, knitting, etc., are also briefly described, as they can have a significant influence on the impact of subsequent treatments.
