An ethnopsychiatric intervention model in youth mental health

Béatrice Chenouard
In the context of globalization, immigration and cultural diversity pose certain challenges and issues for Western societies, particularly in the area of health and social services. This essay proposes an intervention model that integrates ethnopsychiatric concepts with psychosocial interventions in a front-line mental health service in Montreal. This model allows for an understanding and the setting up of assistance and support taking into account the culture of families. Three case stories illustrate a problem of selective mutism, the behavioral problems of a young person at school and finally the difficulties of school interveners when faced with the traditional beliefs of a family. This book is aimed at psychosocial workers: social workers, educators, psychoeducators, psychologists, school workers, doctors, interested in cultural, migratory, mystical or religious belief issues as they arise in mental health consultation services. .
