The Malagasy culture and the respect of the Elders:

Christian Razanatsoavina
The "habits and customs" of a people and a community are rooted in the heritage of traditions that form a complex set of values and morals. What the community refers to must be identified, and the forces that build its identity must be identified. Madagascar is a "traditional" country, but has become republican. In modern times, the people of Madagascar, especially the political leaders and traditional chiefs, do not respect ancestral traditions or democracy. We felt confusedly a loss of the social link in terms of respect and solidarity within the Malagasy society. Madagascar, supported by the Head of State Philibert Tsiranana, a schoolteacher, son of farmers and cattleman. The model of organization and political inspiration remains today the only one in Madagascar that has never been subject to the authority of the monarchy. The Malagasy people need individual recognition and freedom of individual and collective action, especially the ancestral "collective" form, which is the model of the Tsimihety community of the majority ethnic group in the Sofia region.
