Places of (Pop)ular Music in Berlin(West)
This is a reference book of places in Berlin where pop music was performed, recorded, broadcasted and distributed. A lot of the venues mentioned here no longer exist. The book therefore provides some background to a cultural aspect of the city's history that is unlikely to be found in official records. The scope of this work remains confined to the western part of the city because with the building of the Wall in 1961 the western sectors were almost completely cut off from East Berlin. The comic book A City Divided by Susanne Buddenberg and Thomas Henseler published by the avant-Verlag offers chronicles along some personal stories to explain the situation of the divided city.
