The quality of higher education in Porto Velho, Rondônia

João Rafael Valentim-Silva
The evaluation of higher education in Brazil began in 1977 when Brazilian institutions began to have their graduate courses evaluated by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). Quality has become a central issue on the agenda of higher education. Despite being widely used, this term does not achieve consensus in the educational field. However, for all practical purposes, the lack of understanding about the concept is not a problem. Moreover, the concept of quality is not even a focus of discussion. Along with the issue of quality come the issues of quality assurance and accreditation. This phenomenon gains importance with the emergence and development of neoliberal strategies of market conceptions, massification, diversification, privatization and transnationalization in higher education systems.
