Migrant bodies. Ediz. illustrata

Max Hirzel
It was 2015 when the author began to document the management systems of the bodies of migrants deceased in the attempt to reach Italy. His research started from Sicilian cemeteries, in order to understand where and how these bodies are buried, how many have been given a name or what instead if information is missing. The long investigation process would end, a few years later, in a village in Senegal. This work deals with the death of young migrants, the management of their bodies and an often-impossible mourning. This is not an inevitable tragedy, but an "anomaly", an aberration that we should neither allow nor accept. If immigration is increasingly a "political object" of different factions, the "naked" language of these images leads us to the responsibility of being human.
