Leopold Mozart was only able to understand his son's musical genius in terms of it being a God-given wonder: "That my boy [...] knows all of this with his 8 years that could be expected of a man of forty years. In short: whoever has not seen or heard it, cannot believe it". In 1764 Wolfgang composed six sonatas in London - possibly after the model of Johann Christian Bach's "Opus 2" - that can either be played as piano trios, as violin sonatas or simply on the piano. "Royal" sources were consulted for the edition: the copy in the British Library bears the handwritten note: "This Volume belongs to the Queen 1788". Bref: celui qui ne l'a ni vu ni entendu ne peut y croire». Composées à Londres en 1764 - probablement d'après le modèle de l'opus 2 de Johann Christian Bach - ces six sonates sont tout à fait flexibles, puisqu'elles peuvent se jouer sous la forme de trios, de sonates avec violon ou alors au piano seul. Nous avons eu la chance pour cette édition de pouvoir nous appuyer sur des sources «royales»; l'exemplaire de la British Library porte l'inscription manuscrite: «This Volume belongs to the Queen 1788». Leopold Mozart konnte die musikalische Höchstbegabung seines Sohnes nur als von Gott geschenktes Wunder verstehen: "daß mein Bub [...] alles in diesem seinen 8. Jährigen Alter weis, was man von einem Manne von 40. Jahren forderen kann. Mit kurzem: wer es nicht sieht und hört, kann es nicht glauben". 1764 entstanden in London - möglicherweise nach dem Vorbild des "Opus 2" Johann Christian Bachs - sechs Sonaten, die man flexibel als Klaviertrios, als Violinsonaten oder allein auf dem Klavier spielen kann. Für die Edition konnten "königliche" Quellen herangezogen werden; das Exemplar der British Library trägt den handschriftlichen Besitzervermerk: "This Volume belongs to the Queen 1788".
