The large estate Neue Vahr in Bremen is a successful urban model. It was developed at the beginning of the 1960s as a "town of the future," incorporating designs by Ernst May, and is one of the largest residential estates of post-war modernity in Germany. With the current Neue Vahr model process, the housing association GEWOBA has launched an exemplary development process for the district, in cooperation with the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. Based on a precise analysis of the existing buildings, infrastructure and green areas, as well as of the residential community, an interdisciplinary team of architecture, city, transport, and landscape planning professionals, along with residents, has developed visions for further development in the future. The aim was to preserve the qualities of the district and at the same time to strengthen communal living in Neue Vahr as a city of the twenty-first century in which affordable living in a healthy and green environment remains possibl Die Großsiedlung Neue Vahr in Bremen ist ein urbanes Erfolgsmodell. Zu Beginn der 1960er Jahre als "Stadt der Zukunft" unter anderem nach Entwürfen von Ernst May entstanden, ist sie eine der größten Wohnsiedlungen der Nachkriegsmoderne in Deutschland. Mit dem Leitbildprozess Neue Vahr hat die Wohnungsbaugesellschaft GEWOBA in Kooperation mit der Freien Hansestadt Bremen einen beispielhaften Entwicklungsprozess für den Stadtteil angestoßen. Auf Grundlage einer genauen Analyse des baulichen Bestandes, der Infrastruktur und der Grünräume, aber auch der Bewohnerschaft hat ein interdisziplinäres Team aus Architektur, Stadt-, Verkehrs- und Landschaftsplanung unter Beteiligung von Bewohnern Zukunftsbilder für die Siedlung entwickelt. Ziel war es dabei, die Qualitäten des Stadtteils zu bewahren und zugleich das gemeinschaftliche Zusammenleben in der Neuen Vahr als einer Stadt des 21. Jahrhunderts zu stärken, in der bezahlbares Wohnen in einer gesunden, grünen Umwelt möglich bleibt.
