The archaeology of colonial buildings: the case of the city of Dabou

Yao Jean Terence Gauthier Lasme
The built heritage of the colonial period of Dabou, in the southern coastal region of Côte d'Ivoire, represents an important historical heritage, witnessing great moments of history and technical and cultural changes. This, insofar as it gathers in a clearly delimited space, typical habitats, which however suffer from a lack of maintenance. The typological inventory of the heritage of the colonial building of the city of Dabou allowed to bring to light administrative, military, economic, religious, socio-educational buildings. There are also residences and communication infrastructures (roads, landing stages, bridges, etc.). These buildings are located in specific areas according to their function. Faced with their accentuated degradation, avenues of reflection on the preservation of this heritage, in a fragile context, must be proposed for its inscription on the country's tentative list.
