Individuation has been a primary principle of human existence in the area of philosophy but has received little consideration in psychoanalysis as of yet. The phenomenon of individuation should be taken up within a relationship of contrasts within which human singularity and particularity receive their meaning. It should dela with the difficult relationship that individuation and identification form together. Finding or not finding a solution to this conflict is crucial for the destiny of every individual. Wenn das Thema »Das menschliche Schicksal zwischen Individuation und Identifizierung« Gegenstand eines Symposions wird, kann man mit Recht vermuten, dass das Phänomen der Individuation, der Entfaltung der eigenen Individualität - für die Philosphie seit Jahrtausenden ein Urprinzip menschlichen Seins und von der Psychoanalyse nur wenig beachtet - als zentraler Pol der Reflexion gedacht ist. Das ist auch so, jedoch mit einer Einschränkung. Das Phänomen der Individuation soll innerhalb eines Gegensatzverhältnisses aufgegriffen werden, in dessen Spannungsfeld die menschliche Einzigkeit und Besonderheit, seine Individualität als Existenzgrund, erst seine Ausprägung findet. Es soll um das schwierige Verhältnis gehen, das Individuation und Identifizierung miteinander bilden, dessen Lösung oder Nicht-Lösung ausschlaggebend für das Schicksal eines jeden Menschen ist.
