AUTISM IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Adriana Díaz Suavita
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) varies in each diagnosed individual, i.e., each subject presents characteristics that, although they comply with the diagnosis, manifest themselves in different ways, which can generate a difficulty at the time of entering and remaining in a higher education institution. Taking into account the above, and the fact that there is also an affectation at a socio-emotional and communicative level, this paper presents two case studies of ASD in higher education. In the first one, an accompaniment is made around a professional vocation that supports the applicant to identify, by means of psychoanalytical techniques, the profession that will allow him to overcome his autistic withdrawal; and the second one, in search of a psycho-pedagogical support to complete his higher education studies, projecting himself in a job as a professional musician. The research was based on an approach of the psychoanalytic psychology of the self, which uses empathy as a main tool, a way of communication that allows analyzing the internal or subjective processes of people, and generating inclusive education strategies.
