The phenomenon of suicide in contemporary times

Rodrigo Tonel
The present paper proposes to study the phenomenon of suicide and its growing incidence in contemporary society in light of the need for public health policies aimed at its prevention. The problem of this research is based on the increase in annual suicide rates in Brazil and worldwide. Thus, the possibility of developing and implementing public policies that address different sociocultural contexts is discussed. It is understood that the adoption of public policies aimed at suicide prevention can reduce its occurrence in contemporary society. The general objective of this research is to analyze the phenomenon of suicide in contemporary society as a public health problem, attempting to identify the main causes that lead people to abbreviate their lives, demonstrating the absence of public policies for suicide prevention in Brazil and the possible implementation of the same, from a regional perspective, with the purpose of reducing suicide rates.pThe present paper proposes to study the phenomenon of suicide and its growing incidence in contemporary society in light of the need for public health policies aimed at its prevention.
